The Australian Disability Parking Permit
The Australian Disability Parking Permit
The new permit:
- will make it easier for permit holders when they travel, ensuring recognition across Australia;
- has more security features, including hologram foil, micro printing and background print;
- is easier to identify and read by parking inspectors; and
- is made from polypropylene and will be more durable.
When will I receive the Australian Disability Parking Permit?
Some permit holders in Western Australia have already received the new Australian Disability Parking Permit. Due to unforseen circumstances, the ACROD Parking Program is not currently able to issue the new Australian Disability Parking Permit. Consequently a number of WA permit holders have not been issued with the new Australian Disability Parking Permit and the 31 March 2011 deadline for the transition to the new Australian Disability Parking Permit will not be met.
Further advice will be provided once the re-issue is complete in WA. In the meantime both the old style ACROD permits and the new Australian Disability Parking permit will be in use.
When should I start using the Australian Disability Parking Permit?
Permit holders should commence using the new Australian Disability Parking Permit as soon as you receive it. Please dispose of your other permit securely by cutting it up or shredding it.
How to display the Australian Disability Parking Permit
The new permit features a hook, so that the permit can be hung from the rear vision mirror in the vehicle. Important; the permit must be removed from the rear vision mirror before driving.
Permit holders who are unable to hang the permit from the rear vision mirror can display it on the front dash board of the vehicle.
To avoid receiving a fine, please ensure that the permit number and expiry date are clearly visible when you display your permit.
Who issues the Australian Disability Parking Permit?
For permit holders in Western Australia the disability parking program will continue to be administered by NDS WA, through the ACROD Parking Program. New applications and permit renewals will continue to be processed by the ACROD Parking Program team. The only difference is, you will now receive a nationally consistent permit.
Harmonisation of other areas of disability parking
Work is continuing to harmonise other areas of disability parking programs across Australia, including concessions and common eligibility criteria.
Harmonising of parking across Australia will provide many positive outcomes for permit holders, and NDS WA and the ACROD Parking Program looks forward to continuing to assist people with a mobility disability to access their community.
