Our Story

The Australian Partner Portal was created in response to a challenge Allectum experienced firsthand. Since its earliest days, Allectum has been committed to supporting Australian veterans and helping them build meaningful careers after service.

1. In the beginning

This commitment shaped the company’s culture and led to several initiatives designed to give veterans practical pathways into high-demand fields.

One of the most successful initiatives was the Australian Veterans Cyber Academy. The Academy provided structured training, mentoring, and employment pathways into cyber security roles. It delivered strong outcomes for veterans, but like many charitable programs in Australia, it relied on funding that was inconsistent and vulnerable to external pressures. When that funding ended, the program could not continue despite its clear impact.

2. The Challenge

This experience revealed a broader truth. Across the veteran support landscape, even the most effective programs faced the same instability. Charities and service providers were forced to compete for short-term grants or unpredictable donations. Veterans were left with support systems that lacked continuity.

At the same time, Allectum’s leadership saw that many sovereign Australian and veteran-owned businesses faced their own barriers. They had the capability to contribute to defence and government programs, yet struggled to access procurement pathways that were complex, slow, and dominated by established suppliers.

3. Effecting Change

These issues were connected. Veterans needed stable, long-term support. Australian industry needed fair access to government work. Both were held back by structural barriers rather than capability or intent.

Allectum’s directors have spent decades working across defence, national intelligence, procurement, and industry. They understood how government panels operated, how sovereign capability was built, and how veterans could thrive when given the right opportunities. They recognized that the intersection of these challenges created a unique opportunity to do something different.

4. The Solution

The Australian Partner Portal was created to put that insight into action. The Portal provides practical access to sovereign Australian and veteran-owned businesses to compete for Defence, Commonwealth, and state procurement opportunities. The revenue generated through this industry engagement is reinvested into veteran support programs, creating a stable and sustainable funding model independent of grants or donations.

The Australian Partner Portal is the outcome of the journey Allectum’s directors have taken, our commitment to veterans, and our experience with the limitations of traditional funding models. The APP, as an independent charity, exists to ensure that industry success directly contributes to veteran well-being and that Australian businesses have a fair opportunity to strengthen the nation’s sovereign capability.

Early support from founding members gives the APP immediate access to key Defence and government procurement pathways, allowing members to engage with real tenders while the organisation builds its own capability.

As more businesses join, the APP’s reach expands. A larger membership base increases the skills and capacity available to government buyers, strengthening the Portal’s role as a trusted partner. At the same time, the APP is securing its own direct access to additional Commonwealth, state, and local government tender opportunities, increasing the number and range of work available to our members.

Over time, the APP will transition from relying on founding member access to holding its own panel positions across multiple sectors. This marks its shift into full maturity, where it can independently offer a wide range of procurement opportunities and support higher volumes of industry engagement across Australia.

Through this steady growth, the APP becomes a strong enabler for Australian industry. It expands opportunities for members, strengthens sovereign capability, and creates a sustainable source of support for veterans by ensuring that every contract contributes to long-term social impact.

The APP is preparing to launch its secure digital portal, and Australian businesses can now register to be first in line for onboarding, early access to opportunities, and updates as new features go live. Pre-registration ensures your business is ready to engage the moment the platform launches.

Onboard Veteran Charity Partners

The APP will begin formally onboarding and vetting veteran charity partners to ensure alignment with our charitable purpose, governance standards, and impact expectations. This process will identify trusted organisations that will receive funding generated through APP contract activity to support veterans and their families.

Implement Automated Tender Ingestion

The APP is integrating automated tender ingestion to streamline opportunity discovery for members. This enhancement will allow the portal to automatically pull relevant Defence, Commonwealth, state, and local government opportunities into a single, easy-to-navigate feed.

Introduce Direct Opportunity Access for Members

A new membership add-on will enable businesses to receive direct tender notifications for RFQs, which can be accessed immediately through the APP. This feature gives members faster visibility, earlier engagement, and a competitive edge in responding to opportunities aligned with their capability.

Deploy AI‑Driven Opportunity Matching

The APP will introduce an AI-powered matching service that analyses member capabilities, past performance, and industry signals to recommend the most relevant tenders and consortium opportunities, helping businesses focus their efforts where they are most competitive.

Peter brings nearly 30 years of leadership, management and consulting experience across Defence, government and industry with a career defined by solving complex problems in secure and demanding environments. His background spans the Australian Defence Force, DFAT, major multinational consultancies, boutique advisory firms and specialist roles where he has delivered innovative and mission critical solutions for diverse clients.

With a Master of Science in Military Electronic Systems Engineering from the Royal Military College of Science in the United Kingdom where he received multiple IEEE awards Peter combines deep technical expertise with a strong academic foundation. He is also a graduate of ADFA, the Royal Military College Duntroon and the Australian Command and Staff College which reflects a career built on disciplined leadership and professional excellence.

Peter has a proven ability to lead teams and deliver outcomes in any scenario bringing clarity, structure and confidence to organisations facing complex challenges. He is highly regarded for developing emerging leaders through guidance, coaching and practical mentorship and he brings a detailed understanding of organisational design, governance and operating models.

In his leadership role with the APP Peter strengthens the platform’s strategic direction, operational discipline and organisational maturity which ensures the APP is built on strong leadership foundations that support Australian businesses, government buyers and the veteran community.

As a qualified IRAP assessor, Ben has led security consultancy, delivery and assessment activities for a wide range of organisations, combining rigorous compliance expertise with pragmatic, risk‑based guidance that works within real‑world business and budget constraints. This experience directly informs the APP’s security architecture, ensuring the platform meets the expectations of Defence, government and industry from day one.

Ben’s communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills are exceptional, having represented Defence and consulting interests internationally and built strong, trusted relationships across Australian government and industry. His ability to translate technical and security concepts for diverse audiences ensures alignment, confidence and transparency throughout the APP ecosystem.

In supporting the APP, Ben provides the deep cyber‑security leadership required to ensure the platform is secure, compliant and resilient, with embedding governance, assurance and protective security principles that give government buyers and Australian businesses confidence in every interaction
